Homemade Hamburger Helper

weilerbeef

Love the convenience this boxed dish offers, but hate the ingredients?

This one dish dinner favorite has incredible flavor using ingredients from scratch and my favorite comes together in one dish to save on clean up👍.

Have you suddenly become aware of all the unnecessary crap that is put into processed food, because SAME!

Feeding a family, I know it feels a lot better to prepare a meal with single ingredient foods. You know, flour, milk, cheese, beef, you get the idea, lol.

It gives peace of mind to know exactly what's going into our meals, starting with our Weiler homegrown beef born and raised right here at our farm.

With this homemade incredible, creamy, spin on the classic boxed dish is so much more flavorful and pairs well with veggies making it easy to add them right into the dish for even more added benefit.

Making this simple, easy well-known dish, you can feel confident and happy when the kids ask for seconds, as they're getting a wholesome, nutritious meal you can feel good about!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Weiler Ground Beef

  • 6 oz Dry Elbow or Shell Pasta (Can sub chickpea pasta for extra protein)

  • 1 tbsp olive or avocado oil

  • 2 1/2 cups of broccoli florets, or any vegetable

  • 1 small yellow onion, diced (2/3 cup)

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced (2 tbsp)

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups milk

  • 1/3 cup half & half

  • 1 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 tsp dijon mustard

  • 1 cup shredded cheese

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • 1/2 tsp paprika

  • 1/2 tsp fine salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Let’s Get Started

  1. Place a large skillet with a lid over medium-high heat. Cook the ground beef for 7-8 minutes or until cooked through. Remove the cooked ground beef to a bowl and set aside.

  2. Meanwhile, as the beef cooks, cook the pasta in a saucepan of boiling water according to package directions. Drain and set aside.

  3. Wipe out the skillet from Step 1 and place over medium-high heat. Add the oil, broccoli, onion, and garlic. Cook for 4-5 minutes or until the onions are translucent and tender.

  4. Sprinkle the flour over top of the vegetable and stir to evenly coat the vegetables with the flour.

  5. Reduce heat to medium-low and slowly add the milk, one cup at a time, whisking constantly after each addition. Once all milk has been added and mixture has thickened, about 8 min., add remaining ingredients. Stir together until mixed. Remove from heat.

  6. Add the cooked pasta and cooked ground beef to the skillet, carefully folding into the cheese sauce and veggies until evenly mixed. Serve warm.😋
